As the original Mother of Shrine Mont, Jean Rutherford is a founding member of this conference and has attended 33 times.  Jean served as the Director of Program and Education for the Diocese of Southern Virginia from 1979-1994.  During this time, she provided staff support for Christian Education, Outreach, and the Commissions on Peace & Justice, Aging, Alcohol & Drugs, Child & Family Advocacy and AIDS.  She is also a co-founder of the Servant Leader Formation Program.  Currently her passion is Empower Hampton Roads, a faith-based community organizing network.  Jean feels "this work seems to have gathered up all that I have learned and done to use toward making a more just region and world.  It is hard work.  It challenges me to dig deeply for patience, focus and endurance.  It feels like the right way to finish my active life."  She describes herself as a Child of God, Mother, Grandmother and fellow traveler with friends on the great journey.

Randolph Charles has been rector of The Church of the Epiphany in downtown Washington, DC since 1994.  Previously, he was rector of St. Paul’s, Newport News.  He has often attended the Shrine Mont Conference over the past twenty years and has served on staff ten times, including being coordinator.  Randolph is chair of the Committee on Urban Ministry in the Diocese of Washington and is a deputy to the 2009 General Convention.  Epiphany, DC (www.epiphanydc.org) is a diverse and inclusive Christian community that ministers with downtown poor and downtown office workers.  One of the many reasons Randolph treasures his time at Shrine Mont is that he met his wife, Joanne, there in 2005!
